Short Bio
Ivan received his Diploma degree (equivalent to M.Sc.) in computer science in 2003 from the University of Technology Darmstadt. In 2008, he received his Doctoral degree (Dr.-Ing.) from the University of Kaiserslautern. Since 2009, he enjoys a Carl-Zeiss Foundation Fellowship and leads the Robust Network Security Group (RUNSEC). In 2009/2010 Ivan was on a research stay at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) where he was working with Prof. Gene Tsudik and his team at the Secure Computing & Networking Centre (SCONCE). Ivan is an independent research member of the regional multidisciplinary research project Ambient Systems (AmSys). Since 2011, Ivan is working with Prof. Dawn Song at the Security Research Lab, UC Berkeley, US.
Research
My research interests are in the area of network security and applied cryptography. In particular, the focus of my current work is on design, implementation, and analysis of security protocols for wireless networks using physical properties of communication.
I have also been working on other research issues like network performance (network calculus), resource management and decentralized coordination in wireless networks, and trust issues in overlay networks.
The complete list of my papers can be found in Publications and implementations are available in Downloads.

Teaching
Starting from the summer term 2009, I'll be teaching the new course Security in Wireless Networks at TU Kaiserslautern, covering security issues of different wireless technologies (ranging from cellular networks such as GSM and UMTS, to short-range WSNs and RFIDs).
Also, I have been involved in teaching of the following courses:
- Project/Praktikum: Performance Modeling of Distributed Systems (Winter 2007/2008)
- Performance Modeling of Distributed Systems (Winter 2005, 2006)
- Security in Distributed Systems (Winter 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008)
- Seminar on Mobile Computing (Winter 2006, 2007, 2008)
- Communication Networks II (Summer 2003, 2004 @ University of Technology Darmstadt)
